One of the best business decisions I’ve made in the past two years was choosing Kloud9 to help my company achieve CMMC Level 2 certification. As you know, federal contractors have long been asked to self-certify that they comply with NIST 800-171 cybersecurity standards. Now regulations require federal contractors that handle sensitive information to demonstrate their compliance through a rigorous third-party assessment. The bar is high because the only passing grade is a perfect score.
Kloud9 did an exemplary job of setting up our system and preparing my company for a successful assessment. Kloud9 took the lead in designing a secure system; selecting, testing, and implementing tools; and assisting my employees with doing their parts. There were many challenges along the way. Every CMMC Level 2 compliant system needs to be customized to the needs of its organization, and Kloud9 cleverly found solutions even when they weren’t obviously designed into the tools. In some rare instances, I wanted a capability that was difficult to deliver. Kloud9 skillfully delivered the capabilities when possible, and diplomatically explained “why” to me when the standard made it impossible. The cloud-based tools are highly complex to implement, so Kloud9 worked tirelessly to learn, set up, and integrate them into a fully-functioning system. As a relatively new and evolving standard, the industry has not yet reached a universally understood interpretation of all 110 controls, so Kloud9 supplemented its internal expertise by engaging outside experts. When it was time for the third-party assessment, Kloud9 comprehensively prepared me for my role in the assessment. More importantly, Kloud9 performed the role of my company’s “Cybersecurity Department,” and represented my company exceptionally well in answering the assessor’s questions. Although the assessors did their part to scrutinize carefully, we passed with a perfect score on the first try!

Because we are early adopters of the CMMC Level 2 standard, my company has joined an exclusive club by being among the first 1,000 certified companies in a population of about 80,000 companies that will need to be certified in the next few years.
